Skills On Da Beat passes away after prolonged battle with drug addiction.
This morning, the Ugandan music community awoke to heartbreaking news: producer Skillz on da Beat had passed away after a prolonged battle in the hospital. Skillz, whose real name was still whispered with admiration, had made an indelible mark on the industry, most notably for his work with Voltage Music on hits like “Cheza Mama” and “Pull Up.”
Over the past year, Skillz had bravely opened up about his struggles with addiction, sharing his journey in hopes of inspiring others facing similar battles. His honesty had touched many hearts, drawing fans closer to him, but it also highlighted the darker side of the industry—a world where the pressure to succeed could sometimes lead to overwhelming challenges.
During an interview last year, Skills revealed how he had resorted to using drugs during the Covid-19 pandemic. “I started smoking marijuana so that I could hype up my vibe. I started losing focus on my dreams in the industry. I could barely be in the studio to work,” Skills On Da Beat noted.
Skills On Da Beat will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Eastern Uganda.
We pray for his soul to rest in Peace.
